Southend United striker Matt Paterson will stay at League Two Stockport County until the end of the season. Matt Paterson; Staying at Stockport until May and maybe beyond Bottom-of-the-table Stockport County may well be favourites for relegation to the Conference but signed Southend United striker Matt Paterson on emergency loan for a month in February to try and kick-start a great escape which bar one or two good results has failed to happen. However, the 21-year-old has done his best scoring twice in five games, with each goal helping the Hatters to vital 2-1 victories over Bury and then Oxford last Saturday, and with his last game meant to be the 3-0 hammering at Accrington Tuessday evening they now agreed with the Shrimpers for him to stay the full 93 days which takes him to the end of the season where they might make it more permenant. One of the 'summer four' who stayed behind it soon became clear that along with Scott Spencer, now sitting on the subs bench at Tilly's Lincoln, he didn't figure too highly in Blues boss Paul Sturrock's future plans. And unlike Screech the 21-year-old actually scored goals this season, four in six games as a start or more likely, a substitute, and half-a-dozen goals in total over 31 appearances. A make weight in the deal that took Lee Barnard to the Saints he always looked he needed to fill out a bit especially in the tougher envioment of League Two, but there was no doubting his talent, and S24 wishes him continued good fortune at Edgley Park, and more of that promise turns into goals as well as points for the Hatters.Southend will have a 24-hour recall clause but it's doubtful Sturrock will use it, and he will not be allowed to play against us on Saturday, March 26th.Due to restrictions currently imposed on Stockport, been there lads and might be again, the deal is subject to Football League approval.Luggy has always made it clear he intend to look elsewhere for back-up to regular starters, son Blair and 16-goal former Exeter man Barry Corr.Sturrock told www.skysports.com: "Everybody's got different opinions about strike-forces and which players should play with who. I just feel that Matt's not the type of striker I'm looking to have at this football club. I wish him well."And Matt might have a new manager to worry about at Stockport:www.southendunited-mad.co.uk/news/loadsngl.asp?cid=ED54
