Wotte staying at Saints helm

Southampton boss Mark Wotte has agreed to stay on at the helm of the crisis-club.

The Dutch coach, who replaced Jan Poortvliet in the St Mary's hot-seat in January, was out of contract this month but will remain at the helm of the League One side at least until any takeover is completed.

Saints legend Matt Le Tissier and his Pinnacle consortium pulled out of a deal to save the ailing club earlier this week.

"I didn't want to leave while we're in such a difficult situation and I want to stick with the players and the staff at this great club and continue our preparations for life in League One," Wotte told the club's official website.

"I've also asked Michael Svensson to continue working as my assistant and he was also very happy to accept this role. Any other backroom staff appointments will be confirmed in due course.

"I'm happy that we now have a clearer situation on the football side of things and we can step up our preparations for the new season over the next five or six weeks."
