Wotte rules out new signings

Southampton boss Mark Wotte has admitted a lack of funds will prevent him from signing any players on loan.

The Saints are in danger of dropping out of the Championship but, despite fears of relegation, Wotte cannot bolster his struggling squad with any fresh faces.

"As a manager, I would not be against signing players on loan but you also have to respect the position of the club," he told the club's official website.

"It's not easy to spend money when you have players on the bench and it's a fair shout from the club that if you have players like Bradley Wright-Philips or Matthew Paterson then you have to give them the opportunity to show themselves.

"We have others, like Olly Lancashire and Romain Gasmi, who are not even on the bench at the moment, so we have a good squad and I can pick the players that I want from the 24 or 26 players."
