Wotte laments dramatic loss
04 Feb 2009 - 11:41:27
Southampton head coach Mark Wotte claimed bad luck cost his side a point after Tuesday's 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United.
Andrew Surman's 90th minute equaliser looked to have earned the struggling south coast side a point, until substitute Jamie Ward's dramatic stoppage time winner.
"We looked like getting a point but a point is nothing to us," he told the club's official website.
"We needed three points so we just had to go for a win but the boy Ward made an excellent finish.
"Nine out of ten times that ball would go wide, but this time it went inside the post and it was a big blow for the boys and us because we lost the one point we had earned.
"You need to be a man in the Championship to compete every match until you can't give anything else.
"This is a battle we have lost in the war. We didn't lose the war tonight, but we lost the battle so we need to challenge ourselves for the next battle at Watford away on Saturday."
