Wilkins: Saints short of confidence

Southampton caretaker manager Dean Wilkins admits the team are in need of a confidence boost following their 1-0 defeat at Swindon. Charlie Austin scored the only goal of the game to condemn the Saints to defeat and they have now taken just four points from their opening five league games. "We were on top in the first half, but we're just finding it hard to get our noses in front," said Wilkins. "I know everyone says we have got a big squad, but you have only got to look at the options on the bench when we go a goal behind, it becomes difficult then. "We started the game brightly, a lot of the work we did this week you saw in the first 45 minutes, but we can't score and that's been our biggest problem. "We need to try and get more out of Jason Puncheon to provide goals for Rickie Lambert, but I would say in the first 45 minutes we achieved one of our goals, which was our performance."
