Thomson targets first-team role
The 20-year-old midfielder endured a mixed season last time around and was loaned out to the Cherries towards the end of the campaign.
But after scoring from the halfway line as a youthful Saints side went down 2-1 at Farnborough on Monday, Thomson is looking forward to a better year ahead.
"I want to play every game I can for Southampton," he told the Southern Daily Echo.
"If it means I've got to wait and sit on the bench or prove myself again in the reserves first I will do that.
"But if the manager wants to give me a chance then I'm going to take it with both hands."
