Surman cool on exit rumours

Southampton's star midfielder Andrew Surman has played down talk of him leaving the club in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old has been linked with several top-flight clubs, but Surman says he is in no hurry to leave St Mary's.

He told the club's official website: "A lot of things have been said in the papers, but as far as I'm concerned they are just rumours. I'm a Southampton player and I'm happy here.

"Every player in the Championship would love to play in the Premier League one day, but I just want to keep doing as well as I can for Southampton.

"It's nice to be linked to big clubs, but you don't want to get too excited about paper talk because a lot of it is not true.

"There are a lot of games to go until January and I just want to get my head down and play as well as I can for Southampton."
