Cork still missing for Saints Jack Cork remains Southampton's only injury concern ahead of the Barclays Premier League clash with Wigan. The 23-year-old, who represented Great Britain at the Olympics, is still recovering from an ankle knock picked up in pre-season and will miss the first home match this season. Striker Rickie Lambert could start after his goalscoring appearance as a substitute in the dramatic 3-2 defeat by Manchester City. Manager Nigel Adkins has backed talisman Lambert to flourish in the top flight this season. The striker made his top-flight debut aged 30 last weekend, having previously plied his trade in the Football League for his entire career. There were question marks over whether Lambert could make the step up, just like there had been last summer when he made his Championship debut, but he responded in some style by scoring four minutes after coming on. Adkins believes his strike at the Etihad Stadium bodes well for the frontman, whose attributes he believes will prove effective in the Premier League. "What a super goal and I think he will grow in confidence," the Saints boss said. "He has played against some real top defenders there and physically he has dealt with that challenge ever so well. "He gives a dimension to the football team that has served us well over the last few years. Obviously the pace of the game now in the Barclays Premier League is there, but he has got a quick brain." Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is monitoring the fitness of three players. It also remains to be seen whether or not forward Victor Moses has already made his last appearance for the Latics. Wideman Jean Beausejour missed last Sunday's 2-0 home defeat to Chelsea due to a soft tissue problem and will be assessed, along with fellow midfielders James McArthur (back) and Shaun Maloney (dead leg), who both had to be substituted during the match. One of the hosts' stand-out performers against the Blues was Moses but he could be a Chelsea player by the weekend, with Wigan confirming they had accepted a bid for him from the London club.
