Southampton have bolstered their defence ahead of their League One campaign with the signing of former Reading skipper Graeme Murty.
The 34-year-old right-back was released by the Royals at the end of the season and he moved to the Saints to prove his fitness in pre-season.
He has impressed new manager Alan Pardew enough to earn a one year deal.
The Scotland international will be hoping to figure in the opening game of the season against Millwall on August 8.
Speaking to the club's official website, he said: I'm delighted to have tied up a move to Southampton and cannot wait to get started.
"It is a challenge that lies ahead of us this season, but the right infrastructure is in place for the club to regain its Championship status and then move forward from there.
"I've worked with the manager before and have a great respect for him. I know what he's about and I know exactly what he'll expect from me in the forthcoming campaign."
