Charlie Austin available for Southampton

Charlie Austin has recovered from his knee injury and will be available for Southampton's Barclays Premier League clash with Manchester City on Sunday.

Florin Gardos has finally recovered from his long-term knee problem but is unlikely to be considered for selection.

Southampton have no fresh injury concerns ahead of hosting City at St Mary's, giving Ronald Koeman plenty of options.

Saints could yet secure Europa League qualification for next season, but are likely to need three wins from their three remaining matches to realise that aim.

Koeman has offered positive noises about the long-term vision of the club's hierarchy.

"The club makes a five-year plan and of course I'm interested in how we see the plan and discuss about that plan and agree or not," said Koeman.

"I had that meeting with the board of the club and it was separate to my contract.

"The board of the club shows how they see the next five years in the club and it was good to see they still have ambition to grow and to make the next step.

"We always like to do better than last year, but it's difficult because everybody knows the Premier League.

"And there will be interest in some Southampton players and it's difficult to keep the team together for two or three years.

"The club, the team, the players are showing great belief and spirit to finish again this season in a high position in the table.

"We are still fighting for Europe and that's fantastic for the team."

Manchester City will be without playmaker David Silva for the next two to three weeks with the hamstring injury suffered in the midweek Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

Midfielder Yaya Toure is back in training after a thigh injury but will not feature this weekend while forward Samir Nasri has recovered from a muscle problem and will be in the squad at St Mary's.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini is incredulous over why his team have to play three days before Wednesday's Champions League semi-final at Real Madrid.

Pellegrini believes the scheduling of the trip to Saints at 4.30pm on Sunday hampers their hopes of reaching the final of Europe's leading club competition.

Real will have four days to prepare for the clash at the Bernabeu after their La Liga game at Real Sociedad on Saturday and Pellegrini thinks City's game should have been brought forward to correspond.

The club made enquiries as to whether that was possible, but it is understood an official request was not submitted as it was felt it would be unlikely to succeed for a televised fixture.

"For me it is unbelievable," said Pellegrini, whose side will have all to play for in Spain after a goalless draw in the first leg at the Etihad Stadium.

"If you see other leagues, including Italy, the teams that play Champions League play their domestic games on a Friday.

"We are representing England and I think it's important not to give any advantage to the other team."
