Dusan Tadic set to miss out for Southampton

Dusan Tadic is not expected to be available for Southampton in Sunday's Premier League home match against Everton as the Serbian midfielder continues his recovery from a broken nose.

Defender Jose Fonte will be assessed on a foot problem, with manager Claude Puel hopeful the captain will be fit having not travelled for Thursday's Europa League defeat at Sparta Prague.

Forward Charlie Austin, full-back Ryan Bertrand, midfielders Oriol Romeu and Steve Davis should all be recalled, but Matt Targett continues his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury.

Puel believes former boss Ronald Koeman deserves respect when he returns to St Mary's Stadium on Sunday.

The Dutchman is unsure of what reception will await him when he heads to the south coast for the first time since leaving the club to take over at Everton in the summer.

Koeman was the subject of some supporters' ire when he decided not to honour the third year of his contract, having finished seventh and sixth in his two seasons since replacing Mauricio Pochettino.

Frenchman Puel, though, wants everyone to focus on delivering the required performance rather than proving a point to their former boss.

"I think he did very good at Southampton last season, to get the players to be able to (qualify) for playing European games. I have a lot of respect for his work," Puel said.

"I saw him when I was a trainer at Lyon and he was coaching in Europe, he is a good trainer.

"Of course it should be a positive reaction for the players to see their former trainers.

"For the fans it is important to respect also all of his work here and to now be behind their team.

"It is different here now, because the squad has changed with some players finding other clubs, and others now here also.

"Now it is the most important thing to just consider this game, which is against a strong (Everton) team, and not just against a former trainer."

Koeman has no regrets about swapping Saints for Everton.

He said: "I'm really, really happy that I made the move to Everton because I think it's a big club. We know it's a project, it's not an easy one, but okay we are totally confident that we can reach finally what we'd like to do with Everton.

"We started here and we had our opinions about how we'd like to play. Of course it's not that everything is okay because we have things to change, we need to change.

"We like to play a little bit differently than maybe Everton did in the last couple of years. One time it's going well, the next time it's not how I like to see the team, but that's football.

"You cannot change everything in two months. We need more time and that's difficult because you don't get time in football."

Koeman has midfielder Gareth Barry back from suspension and could face a few selection dilemmas.

Only long-term absentees Muhamed Besic (knee) and Matthew Pennington (hamstring) are on the sidelines.
