Saints swoop for Dutchman

Southampton manager Jan Poortvliet has returned to his homeland to sign defender Jan-Paul Saeijs from Roda JC Kerkrade.

Centre-back Saejis has been drafted in at St Mary's due to long term injuries to Michael Svensson and Wayne Thomas.

The signing is subject to clearance being granted for the 30-year-old to play in England and the club hope that these issues will be resolved before the weekend's trip to Barnsley.

Saeijs has made 85 appearances for Roda, captaining the side on several occasions.

Meanwhile, Southampton have let youngster Jake Thomson join League Two side AFC Bournemouth on loan.
