Saints strikers please Burley

Southampton manager George Burley hailed the new-found attacking prowess of his side after they out-gunned Birmingham City 4-3 on Wednesday evening.

A Kenwyne Jones double strike and a Rudi Skacel goal were enough to give Saints a 3-0 half-time advantage.

And although Birmingham hit back after the break, substitute Bradley Wright-Phillips secured the points for the south coast club.

Burley said: "I've been moaning at our side for not scoring enough goals at home, but here we scored the goals but unfortunately we conceded a few as well.

"Over the last ten matches we started to play better as a team and this was a fantastic result for us. Birmingham are a great side and I thought it was a terrific game.

"Looking at the whole 90 minutes we deserved to win it."
