Saints loan in Trotman

Southampton have signed Preston North End defender Neal Trotman on loan.

The centre-back has arrived at St Mary's on a loan deal which will run until January 3.

The 22-year-old is a product of Burnley's youth set-up, before signing a deal with Oldham Athletic.

As an 18-year-old he became an established figure with the Latics, before moving to Deepdale in a £500,000 deal in 2008.

But he made little impact with the Lilywhites as he struggled with injuries and was loaned out to Colchester United.

Manager Alan Pardew told the club's official website: "Neal will bring us an aerial presence in the box that we have been lacking and I am delighted that we have been able to bring him to St. Mary's on loan."

Trotman could make his Saints debut in Saturday's home clash with Brentford.
