Saints add Molyneux to ranks

Southampton have snapped up former Everton defender Lee Molyneux on a two-and-a-half year contract.

The 19-year-old left-back has pledged his future to the Saints until summer 2011 as he looks to kick-start a fledgling career which has been blighted by injury.

Molyneux is a graduate of the Everton academy and has been capped at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 levels by England.

However, he has suffered two slipped discs in his back, the latest of which required an operation at the start of the 2007/08 season.

"Subject to FA clearance (he) could go straight into Jan Poortvliet's squad for Sunday's clash with Manchester United," read a club statement.
