Saints fustrated by County

15 January 2011 17:30
Southampton's title charge was slowed down after a goalless draw against fellow form side Notts County at St Mary's. Saints should have taken an early lead when County goalkeeper Stuart Nelson scuffed his kick straight to Morgan Schneiderlin but the Frenchman could not capitalise. On the half-hour mark Radhi Jaidi had the best opportunity of the match when Jason Puncheon clipped a ball in but the big defender could not keep his header down from six yards. Just before the break Saints starlet Alex Chamberlain picked up the ball from inside his own half and drove at the County defence, weaving in and out before attempting an audacious chip which landed just wide of Nelson's upright. After the interval Craig Westcarr curled an effort over from outside the area and drove a shot straight at Saints goalkeeper Kelvin Davis as the game petered out.
