Southampton slipped to a 2-0 defeat against French top-flight side FC Sochaux in Fribourg on Saturday.
Saints boss Alan Pardew sent out a relatively strong side, with new signing Danny Butterfield making his debut after agreeing terms on a one-year deal.
Youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was given his second start in a Saints shirt following an impressive showing against FC Thun, but Pardew's men could not match their French hosts.
