Saints boss blasts U's approach

Pardew accused referee Darren Deadman of failing to deal with what he described as "gamesmanship" by the home side.

"We're disappointed with some of the antics," said Pardew. "We had ball boys with one ball and it was a case of gamesmanship, which the referee should have done something about.

"I know Aidy - he pushes it to the limit and they were allowed to get away with it. My goalkeeper had to run 40 yards to get the ball when he wanted to take a goal-kick.

"It was a big game for us and we didn't get any help from the officials or the surroundings but that's something we needed to overcome. The referee ruled us offside from a rebound and they went straight up the other end and scored."
