Southampton manager Nigel Pearson has warned his players they risk relegation if they produce another performance like that during Saturday's 5-0 thrashing at Hull City.
The free-falling Saints slipped to within two points of the relegation zone and Pearson has demanded an immediate improvement ahead of next weekend's crunch showdown with Coventry City.
"We've to get this game out of our system as soon as possible," he told the club's official website.
"We've a huge game coming up on Saturday and it's my responsibility to make sure we prepare in the right way and get a positive result.
"We cannot rely on other sides to slip up, we have to do it ourselves and if we play again like we did at Hull then we will be relegated."
