New Southampton manager Nigel Pearson has praised his players for the way they have responded to his arrival at St Mary's.
The Saints have drawn one and lost one since Pearson took the helm, but he believes that the early signs are promising.
He told the Daily Echo: "What pleases me most is the atmosphere in the dressing room and the togetherness.
"Managers and coaches can make a framework for the players, but ultimately it's the players that make it. The game's always been about players and they have a responsibility to each other.
"There's no getting away from the fact this has been a disappointing season for Southampton and we need to salvage something from it.
"That means getting enough points to be safe first and foremost.
"We are in a scrap, but we are better equipped to deal with a scrap if everybody's pulling in the same direction."
