Pearce impressed by Lallana

Southampton youngster Adam Lallana has won praise from Stuart Pearce after being called up into the England Under-21s squad for the European Championship qualifying play-off with Wales.

The 20-year-old Saints forward is in line to win his first cap against the Welsh, having impressed despite the Saints' struggles this season.

Pearce said: "He broke in at the end of last season and Nigel Pearson was very pleased with him.

"This season I've seen them play two or three times and other scouts have picked them up and he has been the one who has permanently, in feedback to me, been doing extremely well.

"He has been playing in a position just off the striker, which at international level sometimes causes us problems."
