Parkes sets survival target

David McGoldrick's excellent strike earned relegation-threatened Southampton a vital point at Blackpool, after DJ Campbell's penalty had put the home side ahead.[LNB]Andrew Surman hit the post in stoppage-time with a free-kick as Saints almost clinched three points.[LNB]Parkes said: "We set out not to lose this game and we achieved that point. We have gone four games unbeaten but I still think we need two more wins to reach safety.[LNB]"We missed one or two chances in the first half which would have killed the game off and they came back strongly at us.[LNB]"And we got our luck at the end when they hit the post and the ball rebounded so fast their players following it in could not get at the ball."[LNB]Blackpool striker Campbell opened the scoring in the 20th minute.[LNB]He converted a penalty awarded by referee David Foster after Campbell himself was pushed in the back by Saints defender Jan-Paul Saeijs as he chased an Alan Mahon lob into the penalty area.[LNB]Blackpool should have gone in at the break 2-0 up but for a magnificent save by Davis who pushed Campbell's overhead kick over the bar at full stretch.[LNB]Their dominance continued into the second half, but Campbell spurned a one-on-one chance with Kelvin Davis, Charlie Adam clipped the bar with a free kick and Wade Small ran a cross shot along the face of the Saints goal.[LNB]Saints then began to get their game together and grabbed their equaliser when McGoldrick latched on to Surman's cross, turned well and buried a low shot past Paul Rachubka.[LNB]Second-bottom Southampton are three points away from safety and manager Mark Wotte believes his team were unlucky to concede the penalty which Campbell tucked away.[LNB]Wotte said: "The first half was not great. We had to get used to the pitch. You can't really play good football on that.[LNB]"Our boys were 100% that the Blackpool penalty was very harsh - it wasn't a penalty.[LNB]"I made changes in the second half because I wanted a more winning mentality.[LNB]"We needed to start winning the ball in the middle of the park which we did.[LNB]"David McGoldrick's goal typified our fighting spirit. He got into the penalty area and went for it.[LNB]"We had ridden out some luck in the first half. Their striker DJ Campbell gave our centre-halves the hardest game they've had in the last two months."[LNB][LNB]
