Pardew pleased with win

Southampton manager Alan Pardew was happy to grind out victory against struggling Leyton Orient on Monday after seeing his team win 2-1.Goals either side of half time from Adam Lallana cancelled out John Spicer's early opener for the Os and kept the south-coast club in the hunt for a play-off place, with them sitting eight points off the pace with a game in hand on the chasing pack. The performance was not the level expected by Pardew, however the Saints chief said he would accept similar displays in the remaining seven matches - providing they yield the results needed to keep his team in promotion race. The 48-year-old said: "It was a tough game because they came here with no pressure and to give it a good go. We didn't start well but I was pleased with the way we reacted."There was no pretty football but we just ground this win out and we are not going to be able to play a champagne-style every week."All we can do is keep winning our games and hope the teams above us drop points."
