Pardew: Saints weren't good enough

New Brighton manager Gus Poyet watched with some surprise as his new side romped to just their second away win of the season thanks to a first-half brace from Glenn Murray and a late goal from Welsh midfielder Andrew Crofts.[LNB]But Saints boss Pardew says the defeat - only their second in 14 matches - was not a surprise and acts as a reminder for his side.[LNB]"We just weren't good enough and we were reminded again how tight this league is," Pardew said.[LNB]"You can't come off the gas for even one game because you get punished because teams in this division are so closely matched.[LNB]"But we can have no excuses - we simply weren't good enough."[LNB][LNB]
