Pardew refuses to give up on play-offs
Southampton manager Alan Pardew refused to concede his side's slim chances of reaching the play-offs are over despite Oldham holding them to a goalless draw at St Mary's.
Free-scoring Saints failed to find the target for the first time in eight games and with just three matches remaining are seven points behind sixth-placed Huddersfield.
Pardew said: "Mathematically while it is still possible we will keep going. Huddersfield should do it as they only need a win but we will carry on.
"We gave everything we could and put in a fantastic effort but couldn't break them down and I do not think we were helped by the referee.
"We had a clear penalty turned down and he did not pick up on their time wasting but the 10-point deduction and the slow start to the season has left us on a knife edge.
"We had given everything on Saturday against Yeovil and maybe there is a little bit of lethargy in our play."
