Pardew ponders new club skipper

Goalkeeper Kelvin Davis currently wears the armband and although Pardew wants him to stay on as club captain, he feels his side need an influence in the middle of the park. "Kelvin is the best captain I have ever experienced as a manager," Pardew told a fans' forum. "His interaction with the group and the way he organises them is great. "I have discussed with him, though, that maybe on a game day we might have someone out on the pitch to have the armband for the referee's sake, because there was an incident at Charlton which needed policing. "Wayne Thomas had thrown someone to the floor in the middle of the park and Kelvin was stuck in his goal as it was all going off. "It would purely be so the referee can say to my man in the middle of the pitch 'keep an eye on him' or whatever. But Kelvin will remain the captain for as long as I am here."
