Pardew looking for free "gems"
The 25-year-old full-back was a free agent after being released by Ipswich and has agreed a two-year deal at St Mary's.
The club are still short of cover in a number of areas and Pardew knows he has to beef up his squad ahead of the season's opener against Millwall next month.
"The Bosman area is still one to look at, I don't want to miss any gems that might still be available," said Pardew.
"There are players at other clubs under contract that I'd be interested in, but we're primarily looking at players that won't command a transfer fee at the moment.
"I also know there are young players out there who may be available to loan in, or even some senior players that are out of favour."
