Pardew in play-off warning

Southampton boss Alan Pardew warned the League One play-off contenders that his side would battle to the end for a top-six finish after an "irresistible" 5-1 win at Bristol Rovers. Jeff Hughes put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot but two goals from Rovers old boy Rickie Lambert and second-half strikes from Morgan Schneiderlin, Adam Lallana and Jason Puncheon killed off Rovers' faint hopes of achieving a play-off place. Pardew said: "We are like that old Hammer film's monster plodding along in pursuit of our rivals and we're not going away while we still have a chance. "This was a performance for our supporters, staff and everyone associated with the club to take pride in. All our flair players were on form and we were irresistible. "Even in the first half we created so many chances and put Rovers under tremendous pressure. "We think we are as good as any side in the division and have beaten all the top teams with the exception of Millwall. If we don't start thinking we are better than we are we will keep on making progress."
