Pardew eyes promotion

Southampton manager Alan Pardew set his sights on promotion next season after the campaign ended with a 3-1 victory over Southend. Saints, who missed out on a play-off spot by seven points, had to come from behind after Franck Moussa fired Southend into a shock lead with a stunning 20-yard strike. Rickie Lambert quickly responded with a close-range header before firing a penalty five minutes from time to make it 37 goals for the season. In the dying moments Adam Lallana reached his own personal milestone by claiming his 20th goal of the campaign. Pardew said: "The result was better than the performance. When you haven't got focus on the game it is sometimes difficult to perform. "We did look very ordinary for long periods but we have outstanding quality in the team and that shone through in certain periods. "There have been some brilliant individual seasons. I think our goal difference was only second to Norwich this season so we have ticked a lot of boxes, but the one box we need to tick next season is promotion. Who knows what would have happened had we not incurred the 10-point penalty but we knew the handicap when we started the season so we cannot moan about it now."
