Pardew bemoans missed chances

Southampton boss Alan Pardew was frustrated as his side slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Bolton in a hard-fought Carling Cup second round tie. Ivan Klasnic spared Bolton's blushes when he prodded in the only goal in the 31st minute after Kevin Davies nodded down a Sam Ricketts cross. The Saints, who have not managed a win in League One this term, are favourites for promotion but their poor start to the season continued despite dominating Wanderers for long periods. "I thought anyone who was here would admit we were unlucky to be beaten," said Pardew. "We are having one of those spells where we just can't seem to capitalise on the chances we are making."
