Oakley extends Saints stay

Thursday Sep 29 2005 14:18

Southampton midfielder Matt Oakley has signed a two-year extension to his contract, keeping him with the Saints until the summer of 2006.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been with the South Coast outift for more than eight years and has made well over 200 appearances for his one and only professional club.

After penning the new deal, Oakley told the club's official website: "I am absolutely delighted to have signed because I can see a lot of good things happening at this club and want to be part of them.

"I would not have signed if I did not see a promising future for the club. I am ambitious, but I believe I can have success here.

"The club are in a very strong position. We have a small squad but a good one and we have been on a good winning streak."
