Not good enough - Adkins

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins could not hide his anger with his players following his side's 3-2 defeat Carlisle The Cumbrians took a 2-0 half-time lead with goals through Ben Marshall and Saint's defender Dan Harding's own goal. Southampton, who won 4-1 at Wembley in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final last time the two sides met, hit back through Alex Chamberlain before James Chester restored the home advantage and Carlisle held on despite Dean Hammond pulling another back for the visitors. Adkins said: "We gave away three poor goals, end of story. We had numerous chances to score. The opportunities were there in abundance, but we lacked the concentration. The top and bottom of it is you can't concede goals like we did. "If the players want to step up to the next level they've got to be better than that and they know it." Adkins added: "We set up to win the game and it was there for us to win. We should have come away with a 2-0 victory, if not more."
