Prospective Southampton chairman Matt Le Tissier has hinted that Kevin Keegan would not be an automatic choice as new manager at St Mary's if his takeover of the club is successful.
Keegan is hot favourite to take the reins at the fallen Saints, who suffered relegation to League One last season.
However, if Le Tissier's Pinnacle Consortium do gain control of the club, the former Southampton player will interview several candidates to become their new manager.
"Kevin is not the only one I have sat down and talked to. I have sat down and talked to a lot of my contacts in the game," Le Tissier told Sky Sports News.
"I have spoken to a lot of people and taken a lot of advice and when the takeover is complete we will sit down and talk about it.
"Unfortunately Kevin was pictured and the papers got hold of it and everyone put two and two together."
The Pinnacle Consortium is facing competition to take control of the club following the emergence of a second party which claims it has the funds to buy the former Premier League side.
"Issues have cropped up, we are a still very much in the running and determined and we think it is in the best interests of the club," added Le Tissier.
