Injuries rack up for Saints
Southampton manager Nigel Adkins has a host of injury worries ahead of the trip to Rochdale.
Adam Lallana is struggling with an ongoing groin problem and was only among the substitutes at Leyton Orient on Saturday while fellow midfielder Dale Stephens missed out with an Achilles injury.
They will be handed late fitness tests along with Frazer Richardson, who was sidelined with a calf strain, and fellow defenders Danny Butterfield and Dan Harding who are carrying minor knocks.
With Alex Chamberlain (ankle) and Morgan Schneiderlin (knee) still on the sidelines, left-back Ryan Dickson may be asked to deputise in midfield again as he did at Brisbane Road.
Winger Lee Holmes remains a long-term absentee after ankle surgery.
