Holmes set for Saints return
19 Dec 2008 - 10:48:13
Southampton have been boosted by the possible return from long-term injury of Lee Holmes this weekend.
The 21-year-old winger has been out of action since damaging his knee in a Championship defeat at QPR in September.
Holmes has returned to training this week and could feature in Jan Poortvliet's squad for Saturday's relegation showdown with Nottingham Forest at St Mary's.
"Lee Holmes looks in good shape at the moment," Poortvliet told the club's official website.
"He's working hard to come back and he looks ready to play. We will look at him before the weekend and we will talk to him, but it looks good.
"He looks sharp in training and has been putting in some good crosses, so he will probably play on Saturday."
Meanwhile, the Saints boss has pledged to be patient with Morgan Schneiderlin after the French midfielder picked up his third hamstring injury of the season last weekend.
He added: "This is the third time in a row he has had the same injury and we have to watch out with that.
"We have to train him well and we have to train him up. When he comes back he has to train hard to be fit, because we don't want it to happen again."
