Have the Saints finally reached a turning point?

After what can only be described as a poor start to the season this year, the club seems to be on the up. The transition back to being a Premier League team after being in the Championship for seven years may have now started. Nigel Adkins team has been stuck in the relegation zone so far this season and only notched up their second win two games ago but what a difference a couple of games can make.

The away win against QPR has started a positive momentum among the defence which may well mean a more competitive side in the future. Fonte and Yoshida are finally starting to gel defensively and with decent attacking options in the form of Rickie Lambert and the improvement in form of Gastón Ramírez and Captain, Adam Lallana the Saints have good prospects for the future. This is what Adkins had to say on the QPR win.

"We're together at this football club" "I think we have a good shape about ourselves from a defensive point of view," "Maya (Yoshida) and Jose (Fonte) are forming a partnership together and it takes a period of time for everybody." - saintsfc.co.uk

The impressive away victory at Loftus Road was just the start though as the Saints beat Newcastle at home on Sunday. The Magpies have had problems in their teams performances recently with bad results and a number of injuries to star players. Newcastle have hit "a tough spell" according to Manager Alan Pardew.

Nigel Adkins thoughts on the game: "It was a good win. We created a lot of opportunities and their goalkeeper also made a lot of saves." The standard of play, as individuals and as a team, is improving all the time."

The Toons poor form was there to see with tired players returning from Europa League games and defensive mistakes from a young Newcastle midfield meant the Saints were in control of the game. They still carried at massive attacking threat in the form of Demba Ba who has already scored an impressive 8 goals this season but Southampton however, had the confidence of their last game and the support of a home crowd and managed to gain another 3 points in an impressive 2-0 win, great form which they must continue tonight against Norwich City.
