FL chiefs enforce Saints deduction
A takeover by the Pinnacle group, which is backed by Matt Le Tissier, has been delayed because they are unhappy with Football League chiefs insisting they forgo the right to challenge the points deduction.
The league's board held an emergency meeting and were unanimous in their decision to enforce the ruling.
Afterwards, the league released a statement saying: "The board of the Football League met today to consider representations from the 'Pinnacle Group' with regard to their proposed takeover of Southampton Football Club.
"The Football League has the responsibility to ensure all League clubs start the season with certainty as regards the competition they compete in.
"With that in mind, the Football League has responded directly to the Pinnacle Group, and will continue to liaise with their representatives going forward."
Pinnacle need the Football League to grant them a licence in order to compete in League One next season but insist they remain confident of the takeover going through.
Saints were docked 10 points after the club's parent company, Southampton Leisure Holdings plc, went into administration.
