Davies keen on Saints stay

On-loan defender Andrew Davies has hinted that his long-term future lies at Southampton rather than Middlesbrough, after stepping down from the Premier League club.

The 22-year-old defender joined the Saints on a three-month loan deal earlier in the week after revealing his frustration at a lack of first-team opportunities at the Riverside Stadium.

Davies, who came through Boro's youth academy, has made six appearances for the top-flight club this season but has suggested his future lies at St. Mary's.

"It's just a loan deal at the moment but I hope to be here much longer," he said.

"The second I knew Saints were interested this was the only place I wanted to go. There were a few clubs in for me but this was the move which appealed most.

"I want to be in the Premier League and I really feel we can achieve that.

"I would love to be here to take Southampton up and to play regularly with them in the top-flight."
