The 32-year-old ex-West Ham, Watford and Wigan forward arrives at St Mary's as a free agent after being released by Sunderland over the summer. "David is keen to show that he is ready to kick back in," said Saints boss Pardew. "I believe in him and my staff all feel that we could get one of the bargains of the season, but only if David comes back to what he has achieved, and what he could do before, because obviously he is a Premiership player when he is at his best. "He's not played football at this level for about 18 months through injury, and one in particular, but he has been training undercover with us for about three weeks and he looks in good shape."
