Burley firm over Jones

Southampton boss George Burley has warned potential Premier League suitors that he has no intention of selling £6million-rated striker Kenwyne Jones.

The Trinidad & Tobago international has been strongly linked with moves to Derby County and Sunderland in recent days, but Burley insists he doesn't need to sell Jones to balance the books at St Mary's.

Earlier this summer, Burley sanctioned the £10million sale of Wales international defender Gareth Bale to Tottenham.

"I want to keep Kenwyne. He came and spoke to me on Thursday and I told him I wanted him to stay," he told the club's official website.

"With all this speculation, it has not been easy for him. Some managers go shooting their mouths off and talk in the press, but I don't think that is right.

"It will be totally my decision with Kenwyne. We don't need to sell him.

"The club is in a good financial position which is why we can turn down £5.5million for a player."
