Arrival of trio boosts Pardew
15 Jan 2010 - 13:25:32
Southampton manager Alan Pardew has admitted he is tempted to throw his new boys in at the deep end after completing the signings of three defenders this week.
Saints have snapped up Jon Otsemobor, Daniel Seaborne and Jose Fonte, with all three arriving at St Mary's in the past week.
And with a clash against with a League One clash against Millwall approaching this weekend, Pardew has speculated at handing full debuts to all three of his new acquisitions.
The former West Ham and Charlton boss told the club's official website: "We might have a situation on Saturday where we are starting new in some degrees, because if they all play, or all start then we are changing 25 per cent of our team."
Meanwhile, Pardew has spoken of his delight at sealing deals for his top targets.
"I am very, very pleased to have been able to bring in the two guys (Fonte and Seaborne) in the centre of defence that I wanted," he said.
"You only have to look at our record this season to see where we needed to improve and I'm not afraid to increase the competition there as we are scoring enough goals, but not stopping enough."
Of Otsemobor, Pardew added: "I think there was a situation where Jon went out of the team at Norwich for whatever reason, a loss of confidence or whatever and they have replaced him.
"I think he could do very well here, it's an opportunity for him, he's here until the summer so he has to prove his worth."
