Adkins eyeing Saints promotion

Nigel Adkins is relishing the challenge of leading Southampton to promotion this season after finally taking over as manager. The 45-year-old agreed a three-year deal at St Mary's on Sunday evening after Saints thrashed out agreed a compensation package with his former club Scunthorpe. "I'd been at Scunthorpe for a long time and I really appreciate all the hard work and effort that has gone in during the 14 years I've been associatied with the club, and the four years as manager," he told Saints' official website. "It's been a great time in my life but now it's time to move on, move forward and I'm really looking forward to this fresh, new challenge. "Our objective is to make sure we get get promoted this season, every game is going to be challenging."
