South Africa rule out injured midfielders

Injured South Africa midfielders Kagisho Dikgacoi and Lerato Chabangu have been ruled out of the Africa Cup of Nations Group A fixture against Angola in Durban Wednesday.

Dikgacoi from English second-tier club Crystal Palace started in the 0-0 draw against Cape Verde Islands last Saturday only to be taken off at half-time after making little impression.

He has a recurring knee injury while Chabangu from Soweto outfit Moroka Swallows, who came on in the second half at Soccer City, is suffering from a painful groin.

Dean Furman from third-tier English club Oldham Athletic is expected to replace Dikgacoi in a defensive midfield role as Bafana Bafana (The Boys) look to kick-start their campaign after a woeful start.

South Africa coach Gordon Igesund is set to make at least two changes with striker Katlego Mphela favoured to come in for Lehlohonolo Majoro and some pundits believe off-form wide man Siphiwe Tshabalala should be dropped.

Angola and Morocco also played out a goalless draw in the second half of the Soweto double-header, leaving all four contenders on one point with two rounds to come and two quarter-finals places up for grabs.
