Benni McCarthy, South Africa's all-time leading scorer, says he is done playing for national side Bafana Bafana, local media reported Sunday.

"You don't want to be having old throngs hanging around the national team," said the 33-year-old striker, who has 31 goals in 79 matches for South Africa.

"Now is the time where they should be building a new talent of players," the Sapa news agency quoted him as saying.

McCarthy, who had international stints with FC Porto, Blackburn and West Ham, has struggled with injuries recently, but delivered a crack performance Saturday for his new side, Orlando Pirates.

His two second-half goals gave the team a 2-1 win over rivals Moroka Swallows and a place in the South African League Cup semi-finals.

McCarthy was dropped from Bafana Bafana's final squad for the 2010 World Cup amid struggles with his fitness.
