Is South Africa about to replace Nigeria at the top of African football?

The situation is quite clear that the domination of African football is changing hands. The qualifying series of the next AFCON really showed that the sleeping giants are waking up.

The ease at which South Africa qualified from their group which included the defending champions, speaks volumes of what to expect from the Bafana Bafana as they are called. And to have qualified leaving the defending champion to count their losses shows the South Africans means business.

Many African football followers believe what contributed to their resurgence is the level of technicality and maturity of their local league.

Unlike Nigeria League matches that are played in almost empty stadium, their South African counterpart enjoy fully loaded stadiums during matches with better marketing strategies!

Although, League matches too in Nigeria are broadcast live by a paid regional television station, but many don't watch it.

Is South Africa taken over the mantle of African football from Nigeria? Only time will tell.
