Shrewsbury Town's managing director Rob Bickerton has confirmed that the club will move on to other targets after being refused permission to talk to Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy.
The Shrews have started the search for a replacement for Gary Peters and had hoped to talk to McIlroy about their vacancy.
Bickerton told the Shropshire Star: "We approached Morecambe in confidence seeking permission to seek to Sammy and they've refused that.
"It has to be dead in the water because at Shrewsbury we only operate in the right way. When you're trying to take a player you can't make an illegal approach and it's the same with a manager.
"We approached Morecambe in the right way, they refused our approach and that's the end of it."
