Symes close to Shrews return

Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Simpson hopes Michael Symes will be ready for a first-team return shortly.

The 24-year-old striker has been sidelined since the Johnstone's Paint Trophy success at Exeter City three weeks ago with a knee injury but has now returned to training.

Simpson told the Shropshire Star: "Symsey is back training for the first time.

"The reserve game against Macclesfield looks like it will be too soon for him to play and we're just concentrating on him getting a good week of training under his belt."

Meanwhile, Graham Coughlan should have recovered from the head injury he sustained in the 1-1 draw at Chester City in time to feature against Bradford City.

Simpson added: "The signs for Graham are good at the moment. Hopefully he'll be fine for next week."
