Simpson bags Elder

Paul Simpson has signed Brentford striker Nathan Elder on a three-year deal ahead of the new campaign.

After starting his career at non-league Billericay before having spells at Brighton and Brentford, he will have the difficult task of replacing Grant Holt, who has left the New Meadow to join League One side Norwich City.

Speaking to the club's official website, a bullish Simpson said: "It was a long day yesterday getting everything sorted but, by about 9pm last night, we got everything sorted and I'm pleased to announce that we've signed Nathan Elder.

"He's a young striker who's a big strong physical player who I think will be a positive addition to the squad."

Elder will be hoping to feature for the Shrews in their opening League Two game of the season against Burton Albion.
