Shrews to free goalkeeper

Shrewsbury Town boss Gary Peters will let injury-plagued goalkeeper Ryan Esson leave Gay Meadow on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old made just six appearances for the Shrews following his arrival from Aberdeen last summer and has been linked with an immediate return to his former club.

"Ryan's agent asked if there'd be a fee if there was a chance of a move back to Aberdeen," Peters told the Shropshire Star.

"We would not stand in Ryan's way by putting a fee on his head.

"Ryan's had an unfortunate season with injuries and he's not much of a sell-able commodity."
