Shrews swoop for Holden

Shrewsbury Town have signed Falkirk defender Dean Holden on a two-year deal.

The 29-year-old began his career at Bolton Wanderers, before moving on to Oldham Athletic and Peterborough United.

He moved to Scotland in January 2007 and, during his time with Falkirk, suffered a broken leg in a match with Celtic. However, he made a full recovery and was able to return to the first team.

"He's a versatile player who can play across the back four," Shrews boss Paul Simpson told the club's official website.

"I'm hoping he'll cement the right-back position and make it his own."

Meanwhile, Omer Riza has signed a new deal with the club, extending his stay by 12 months. However, Marc Pugh has left the Shrews after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.
